On the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a major announcement regarding skill development for young artisans in UP. He revealed that 23 companies will provide training to young craftsmen under the state government’s toolkit and training scheme. Additionally, 12 new trades will be added to the existing scheme. This will help artisans gain modern and market-relevant skills.

New Trades to Boost Artisan Skills

The traditional 11 artisan trades have now been expanded by including 12 additional trades. These include mobile repair, automobile repair, electronic goods repair, and electrical goods repair. Also added are plumbing, computer repair, solar panel repair, digital photography, and beauty & wellness. These new trades aim to equip youth with advanced skills connected to modern technology and global markets. Thus, promoting self-reliance and entrepreneurship.

23 Companies to Provide Advanced Training

Several reputed companies and organisations have partnered with the government to deliver this training. Among them are Railtel India, GMR, Shahi Exports, Usha International, Lakme, Mister Brown, and others. These companies will offer technical training to traditional artisans. This will enable them to upgrade their skills with contemporary technologies and open up new employment avenues.

Vision to Create Job Providers, Not Job Seekers

CM Yogi said that the government’s goal is to transform youths into job providers rather than just job seekers. He also said that the credit availability for artisans has improved significantly. It increased from 44 rupees for every 100 rupees deposited in 2017 to 62% currently. There is a target to increase it to 75% soon. The government has also distributed toolkits to 12,000 artisans and sanctioned loans worth ₹1.32 lakh crore. This empowers artisans and entrepreneurs across the state.

In addition, 111 junior assistants were given appointment letters in a transparent recruitment drive. The Vishwakarma Expo 2025 and the upcoming Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show will provide substantial market opportunities for artisans. This will enable them to showcase their products to national and global buyers.

This initiative marks a significant step in promoting youth skill development. It boosts the state’s economic growth through livelihood generation and entrepreneurship in the artisan sector.
