The Uttar Pradesh government is taking a major step in road infrastructure. The Public Works Department (PWD) has prepared a plan to build 10 new roads in every Assembly constituency. On Thursday (August 21), Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath may approve this proposal. Work will start quickly after the monsoon season.
New road network and small bridges
Each constituency will get 10 new roads at a cost of ₹10 crore. These roads will be 1.5 to 2 kilometres long. Rural roads cost about ₹50–55 lakh per kilometre. With this budget, 18 to 20 kilometres of new roads can be built in each constituency.
The plan also covers the construction of bridges. Every constituency will get three minor bridges at a cost of about ₹5 crore. If funds allow, more bridges can be added.
Budget and project details
PWD’s budget for the current financial year is about ₹33,000 crore. PWD will spend around 40% of this on ongoing works, and it will use 60% for new projects. Each constituency will see a total spend of ₹50–55 crore for new and ongoing works.
Contractors will complete large projects costing over five crore rupees in 18–24 months. They will finish smaller projects within this financial year.
Proposals worth ₹45,000 crore Ready
At the state level, the government has planned new projects worth ₹15,000 crore. As per the rules, officials can prepare proposals up to three times this amount. Based on this, PWD has already prepared proposals of nearly ₹45,000 crore.
Roads to change the face of rural and urban UP
The government believes this project will strengthen the road network across the state. It will improve connectivity between villages and cities. Travel will become easier, time will be saved, and economic activity will grow faster. Authorities say it is an important step to boost development and basic infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh.
