Chail MLA Pooja Pal has launched a fierce attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav after her expulsion from the party. She accused him of promoting criminal elements within the party. Moreover, she stated he deserted her when she needed support. Pal stated that her expulsion was an attempt to silence the voices of the backwards classes, Dalits, and economically weaker sections in Uttar Pradesh.
In a letter addressed to Akhilesh Yadav and shared on her X account, Pal wrote, “My voice against injustice and betrayal! Expulsion from the party is not just about me, but an attempt to suppress the voice of the backwards, Dalit, and poor people of Uttar Pradesh. I have fought and will continue to fight the battle for justice.” She questioned whether Akhilesh truly protects the backward (Pichhde), Dalits, and minorities (Alpsankhyak).
Justice for Husband’s Murder and SP’s Caste Politics
She joined the Samajwadi Party hoping to seek justice for her late husband, BSP MLA Raju Pal, who was shot dead in Prayagraj in 2005, just days after their wedding. In February 2023, someone also killed Umesh Pal, a key witness in the murder case, in Prayagraj. Pal said the SP government ignored her struggle for justice. She credited the BJP government for finally delivering justice in this long-pending case.
Pooja Pal claimed her expulsion was unjust. This occurred because she was removed for voting in favor of a BJP candidate in the 2024 Rajya Sabha elections. She pointed out the hypocrisy that Akhilesh Yadav himself voted for a BJP candidate in the Constitutional Club elections in Delhi days later. She accused the SP chief of arrogance for expelling a widow from a backwards community. Her criticism aimed to highlight injustice, not create divisions.

Pal revealed she is now receiving online threats and fears for her life. She stated, “My only aim of receiving justice for my husband’s murder has been fulfilled. Now, even if I die, it won’t matter. But if anything happens to me, the Samajwadi Party and Akhilesh Yadav should be held responsible.”
Expulsion Order and Allegations of Criminal Nexus
Her expulsion order, signed by Akhilesh Yadav on August 14, cited “anti-party activities and serious indiscipline.” The party accused her of praising Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s “zero tolerance policy,” which they considered anti-party conduct. The order stated, “You carried out anti-party activities, and even after being warned, you did not stop these activities, which caused the party to suffer greatly. Therefore, the Samajwadi Party is expelling you with immediate effect.”
In a separate strong letter, Pal said that criminal-minded functionaries within the Samajwadi Party threaten to kill her. She appealed to the government to hold Akhilesh Yadav and the party responsible if anyone harms her. She wrote, “You have humiliated me and left me in the lurch. This has emboldened the criminal-minded functionaries of SP. Itâs possible that someone may kill me.”
Pooja Pal recalled how she had initially supported Akhilesh Yadav’s leadership. She expected the party to back her fight against criminals. However, over time, Pal became disillusioned by what she called caste-based favoritisms. She noted a soft stance toward mafia elements in the SP. She described enduring years of suffering within the party before being expelled without an opportunity to explain her side.
SP Treats Muslims as First-Class, Dalits and Backwards as Second-Class Citizens
Pal described her expulsion as “another act of injustice.” She highlighted the injustice of punishing a widow from a backwards caste for thanking the personâYogi Adityanathâwho ensured justice for her husband. She contrasted this with the leniency shown to Akhilesh Yadav and his wife, who voted for BJP candidates without facing consequences.
In her letter, Pal alleged the Samajwadi Party prioritised certain communities, particularly Muslims, over backwards, extremely backwards, and Dalit communities. She said, “In SP, backwards, extremely backwards and Dalits are treated as second-class citizens. Only Muslims are considered first-class, even if they are hardened criminals.”
Recalling the brutal murder of her husband, Pooja said he was shot in public and later targeted inside a hospital with automatic weapons. She charged the SP government with failing to deliver justice and supporting the accused in her husband’s case. She praised the current BJP government for taking action and punishing the culprits.
Despite her wounds, Pal expressed faith in the people of Uttar Pradesh, particularly the backwards Pal community, to support her ongoing political fight for justice. “I have achieved my goal. My husband’s murderers have been punished. Even if I die now, I will die with pride.”
The Samajwadi Party had not officially responded to her letter or allegations as of the filing of this report. Meanwhile, Pal’s comments have triggered controversy within Uttar Pradesh’s political circles. This has intensified scrutiny of Akhilesh Yadav’s leadership and the party’s internal policies.
