Union Home Minister Amit Shah has fiercely criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the use of abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a rally in Bihar. The Home Minister, speaking at an event in Assam on Friday, slammed the ‘politics of hatred’ by Rahul Gandhi.
Shah demanded that Rahul Gandhi apologise for his offensive remarks and said the insults would only strengthen the PM’s popularity.
Incident Sparks Outrage
On Friday (August 29), Amit Shah condemned the incident that took place during a program organised by the opposition alliance in Bihar. Shah said, “Congress leaders committed a highly condemnable act by using abusive words against PM Modi’s mother during their ‘Save Intruders March’. I strongly denounce this.” He also added that all Congress leaders have spoken abusive words against the Prime Minister.
Shah Honours PM Modi’s Mother’s Life
Home Minister highlighted the simple life of PM Modi’s mother, saying she lived in a simple home, raised her children with strong values, and shaped Modi into a trustworthy leader. “No one in India can tolerate abuse directed at such a life,” he said. Shah called the incident a “political degradation” and urged Rahul Gandhi to ask apologies to PM Modi, his late mother, and the country.
Demand for an Apology from Rahul Gandhi
Shah appealed directly to Rahul Gandhi, saying, “If you have any shame left, apologise to the Prime Minister, his departed mother, and the people of India. May God grant wisdom to all.”
Controversy During Voters’ Rights March
The controversy started after some Congress workers used offensive language against PM Modi and his late mother during Rahul Gandhi’s voters’ rights march in Bihar. BJP has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Patna’s Kotwali police station and demanded an apology from the Congress MP involved in the incident.

Separately, on the second day of his two-day Assam visit, Amit Shah inaugurated the newly built Brahmaputra wing at Raj Bhavan. He also virtually inaugurated the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory–Northeast at Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Darrang, worth ₹45 crore. Shah launched several development projects for ITBP, SSB, and Assam Rifles, including housing complexes, barracks, and hospitals.
Earlier, Shah performed a pooja inside a temple at Raj Bhavan, including cow worship and planting a sindoor tree sapling. Assam’s Governor and Chief Minister welcomed him at the venue.
Shah Blasts Rahul Gandhi at Guwahati Rally
During his Address in Guwahati, Shah condemned the derogatory comments made against PM Modi and his mother during the Bihar opposition rally. He blamed Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav for orchestrating the incident. Shah demanded Rahul Gandhi’s apology and called the incident a mark of political decline.
He stressed the modest upbringing of PM Modi’s mother, who instilled values of hard work and honesty in her children, resulting in a dependable leader. Shah said, “Using offensive language against such a life is unacceptable and represents the lowest political degradation.”
BJP Holds Protest Against Congress
Following the viral video showing Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav’s supporters allegedly using abusive language against PM Modi and his mother, BJP has strongly reacted. The party staged protests outside the Congress headquarters and clashed with Congress workers during the demonstration.
