Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced the launch of the fifth phase of ‘Mission Shakti’, dedicated to women’s safety, dignity, and empowerment. It will begin from Sharadiya Navratri on September 22. This phase will run for 30 days. It features an extensive campaign to increase security measures and public awareness for women and girls across Uttar Pradesh.
Mission Shakti: Boosting Women’s Safety and Awareness
The Chief Minister said that Mission Shakti’s success is measured by how safe every daughter feels. He also stated that criminals must always fear the law. Since its inception in 2020, Mission Shakti’s previous four phases have significantly improved security and empowerment for women in the state. Senior police officers have been ordered to patrol the streets, interact with residents, inspect police lines, and join regular patrols. The campaign will also strengthen foot patrolling. All PRV-112 police vehicles will be kept actively deployed throughout the state. Strict and fair action will be taken against offenders, regardless of gender, ensuring equal treatment under the law.
Village and Religious Places to Get Women Police Deployment
During this phase, every one of the state’s 57,000 gram panchayats and 14,000 urban wards will have women beat officers engaging with local women. These officers, along with community health workers and village representatives, will educate women and girls about their legal rights. They will inform them about available support schemes and emergency assistance channels. Special deployments of women police will be made at major temples during the festive season. These will also cover religious events and crowded public places.
Pink Booths and Special Drives for Support
Municipal corporations across Uttar Pradesh will set up Pink Booths where women can access 24×7 support under a single roof. This includes everything from registering complaints to counselling, legal aid, and follow-ups. Personnel at Mission Shakti centres will receive specialised training in gender sensitisation, digital evidence gathering, case management, and awareness of financial welfare schemes. Last phase’s achievements included over 344,000 programs reaching more than 20 million women and girls. Additionally, the women’s helpline 1090 and the Pink Booth programs produced positive results. Operations targeting cybercrime, child rescue, anti-harassment, and anti-drug drives have led to thousands of successful interventions. Uttar Pradesh also leads the country with a 98.8% disposal rate in cases related to crimes against women. This sets a benchmark for others.
