Laptop-Mobile Components to Be Made in UP, Yogi Cabinet Approves Policy; UP Set to Become India’s Digital Manufacturing Hub

The new policy is designed to maximise local production and deepen supply chains.

The Yogi Cabinet has approved a groundbreaking electronics component manufacturing policy for Uttar Pradesh. This policy aims to shape Lucknow, Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway as dedicated hubs for electronics manufacturing. With a focus on making components for mobile phones, laptops, smart gadgets, cameras, TVs, refrigerators, and more, the policy will generate wide-ranging opportunities for investment and employment in the state.

Historic Growth under the Yogi Government

Back in 2015, only two mobile manufacturing units were operating in Uttar Pradesh. Today, more than 300 units are active. The annual output now stands at 80 million mobiles and 15 million laptops. Over 50% of India’s mobiles are now produced domestically. The government aims to attract at least ₹7,500 crores in new investment within the next five years. They are banking on the state’s talent and expanding industrial park infrastructure to achieve this goal.

A Wide Array of Components Will Be Made

The policy covers the manufacturing of 11 crucial electronics components. These include touch panels, advanced display units, circuit boards, batteries, camera modules, sensors, charging ports, cables, speakers, connectors, internal memory, processors, RAM, and smaller parts. Earlier, most of these were imported. However, the new policy is designed to maximise local production and deepen supply chains. It also encourages innovation and aims to reduce reliance on foreign imports.

Strong Incentives for Investors

Under the policy, manufacturing firms will enjoy capital subsidies, stamp duty waivers, and reduced electricity rates for five years. Special logistical and operational support will also be provided. Already, four companies have begun manufacturing automotive electronics components. They have invested nearly ₹570 crores since 2022, with another ₹250 crores in progress. The policy is expected to create lakhs of direct and indirect jobs. It positions UP as a global manufacturing hub.

New Initiatives in Education and Health

Shahjahanpur will soon host a new state university, boosting higher education access. Forty-seven special teachers will be appointed to government schools. Fifteen community health centres will get new ultrasound machines. Varanasi will see the opening of a special care centre for persons with disabilities.

This forward-looking policy is expected to take Uttar Pradesh closer to its goal of a $1 trillion economy. It will drive industrial growth, generate employment, and put the state firmly on the map as a digital manufacturing powerhouse.
