A shocking case has emerged from Kushinagar district, where a man, after spending 10 years in jail, returned home only to find that his family had completely changed. His wife had converted to Islam, his sons were studying in a madrasa, and one son even refused to recognise him. Police later arrested the madrasa principal for forcing the family into religious conversion.
Returned Home After 10 Years in Jail
The incident took place in Mansha Chapar village under Hanumanganj police station in Kushinagar. Mahendra Kushwaha (45) was sentenced to 10 years in a rape case. After completing his sentence, he was released on 4 September.
When Mahendra returned home, he was shocked to see his wife, Rabri Devi. She was no longer living like before. Instead, she wore a burqa, offered five daily Namaz, and was following Islamic customs.
Sons Studying in Madrasa, One Changed His Name
When Mahendra asked about his children, he was told they studied at a local madrasa. On Sunday (4 September), he went there to meet them. But to his utter shock, his elder son, Vipin (14), refused to recognise him. Vipin’s name had already been changed to Noor Alam. His younger son, Bittu, was also studying in the madrasa.
This heartbreaking denial by his son left Mahendra stunned.
Complaint Against Madrasa Principal
Mahendra alleged that Madrasa Principal Mujiburrahman exploited his family’s poor financial condition and forced his wife and sons to convert to Islam. He changed his son’s name and kept them at the madrasa.
When Mahendra asked for his children back, the madrasa people allegedly abused him, pushed him out, and threatened to kill him.
Police Arrest the Accused
After this, Mahendra filed a written complaint with the police. Acting on it, police arrested Mujiburrahman on Monday (8 September). During interrogation, he admitted that he used the family’s financial trouble as an opportunity. He offered them free food, clothes, and education, and then persuaded them to accept Islam.
Police also recovered a stolen bike from his possession and later sent him to jail.
‘My Family Fell Apart Without Me’- Mahendra
Mahendra broke down while speaking about his family’s condition. He said,
“When I was in jail, my family had no support, so they were misled. But now I am back. I will fix everything. I will work hard and earn enough to take care of them.”
How the Story Began- Superstition and Faith
Ten years ago, when Mahendra was sent to jail, he had three children. One of them died later. At that time, someone told his wife that a black magic spell had been cast on the family.
Out of fear and grief, Rabri Devi started visiting shamans and exorcists. Slowly, she began going to shrines and mazars. Within a few years, her lifestyle and faith completely changed. For nearly four years now, she has fully adopted Islamic traditions, even sending both sons to madrasas and changing their names.
Police Investigation Underway
Police confirmed that the case involves religious conversion and threats by the madrasa principal. The accused has been arrested, and further inquiry is being carried out to find out if more people are involved.
This incident has created shock waves in Kushinagar, where a man’s return from prison after a decade turned into a painful realisation that his family had already walked a different path in his absence.
