Under the Sant Kabir Textile and Apparel Scheme, 659 investment proposals have been received for establishing 10 parks. These proposals will need 1,642 acres of land. According to the submissions on the Nivesh Sarathi portal, investments worth ₹15,431 crore have been proposed in these parks. This will create about 1,01,768 jobs. CM Yogi has directed officials to identify land for the implementation of proposals.
Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP) will be set up along with supporting units. The state government is focusing on textiles, handicrafts, and apparel industries to boost investment and employment in Uttar Pradesh. CM Yogi has instructed that 10 textile and apparel parks should be developed in different districts of the state under the name of Sant Kabir. Each park will be built on 50 acres of land. It will have modern technology facilities.
The global textile and apparel market is estimated to reach 2.3 trillion US dollars by 2030. India is among the fastest-growing countries in this sector with an annual growth rate of 8%. In this situation, the participation of Uttar Pradesh can prove decisive.
UP: A leading State in Textile and Apparel Exports
According to details presented in the meeting, Uttar Pradesh is already among the leading states in textile and apparel exports. In the financial year 2023–24, the state exported about 3.5 billion US dollars worth of textiles and apparel. This was around 9.6% of the country’s total export in this sector. This industry contributes 1.5% to the state’s GDP and provides direct employment to nearly 22 lakh people.
The Chief Minister has also asked officials to mark land quickly for these investment proposals. They should ensure their implementation through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model or a nodal agency. Roads, electricity, and water facilities will be given priority to develop textile parks. Powerlooms will be connected to solar energy for weavers’ use.
The government is planning to give a new shape to traditional clusters like Varanasi, Mau, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Sitapur, Barabanki, Gorakhpur, and Meerut through these parks.
These investment proposals will not only accelerate industrial development in the state but also open new opportunities for employment.
