Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, is fast becoming the hub of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India, under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath. With global tech giants and the state government joining hands, the city is set to transform into the country’s first AI City.
InMobi bets big on Lucknow
InMobi, a global leader in AI-powered technology, has launched a new technology centre in Lucknow. This makes Lucknow part of InMobi’s global innovation network.
The company is among the first global deep-tech firms to tap into Lucknow’s growing pool of tech talent. The centre will drive innovation in Generative AI, MLOps, automation, and large-scale AI infrastructure.
InMobi plans to hire 500 deep-tech engineers, data science professionals, and product specialists. Over time, the project will generate more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
This investment aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s vision to become a $1 trillion economy by 2029. It also shows how top technology companies are decentralising operations beyond India’s major metros.
IndiaAI Mission gives ₹10,732 crore boost
The state capital has also received a major push from the Government of India. Under the IndiaAI Mission, approved in March 2024, Lucknow has been allocated ₹10,732 crore to develop its AI ecosystem.
This fund will support the creation of 10,000 GPUs, multi-modal language models, and an AI innovation centre. The proposed investment is the highest in the country, 67% greater than any other tech infrastructure project.
The state government will soon release a draft AI policy in line with India’s Vision 2047. Officials say this will position Uttar Pradesh as the new IT and AI destination of the country.

Training and skilling initiatives
Under the flagship initiative AI Pragya, the state government is training more than 10 lakh people. The focus is on AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, and data analytics.
Every month, 1.5 lakh youths, teachers, government employees, gram pradhans, and farmers will be certified with industry-ready skills. Tech giants such as Microsoft, Intel, Google, and Guvi are active partners in this mission.
The training programme also involves women’s self-help groups and farmer networks, ensuring wider reach.
Smart governance with AI
AI-powered solutions are already being implemented in multiple sectors. In 17 municipal corporations and Gautam Buddh Nagar, CCTV surveillance, facial recognition, number plate tracking, and SOS alert systems are connected to the 112 helpline and police control rooms.
A high-tech AI-based traffic management system is planned for Lucknow. In Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency, an AI-enabled smart traffic system is already in progress.
The “Jarvis” AI monitoring system is active in 70 prisons across the state, ensuring round-the-clock surveillance.
AI in agriculture and land management
The UP Agris Project is connecting 10 lakh farmers to AI-driven technologies. Smart irrigation, drone mapping, pest detection, and digital market access are being introduced.
Women’s self-help groups are also being integrated into these programmes. In the revenue department, AI tools and satellite imaging are being used for land record management and consolidation.
Lucknow’s AI future
The combined efforts of global tech companies and CM Yogi Adityanath are reshaping Lucknow. With large-scale investments, training programmes, and advanced AI systems, the city is set to become India’s first AI City.
Experts believe this will not only create jobs but also make Uttar Pradesh a key player in the global AI economy.
