Communal tension erupted in the Izzatnagar area of Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh, over the procession of the chadar during the Ala Hazrat Urs. The 107th Urs-e-Rizvi of Ala Hazrat commenced in Bareilly.

The Hindu community of Khajuriya and Rahpura Chaudhary villages alleged that a new tradition was introduced this time in the procession to disrupt the atmosphere. When the change was opposed, the other side started sloganeering and creating a commotion. A video of this clash is rapidly going viral on social media.

Tension sparked by DJ, flags, and slogans

Earlier, the procession sent only the chadar, but this time, people took out the procession with a DJ, flags, and slogans. The Hindu community opposed it, believing the Muslim community deliberately organised the event. The protest led both sides to confront each other, escalating the situation. Seeing the rising tension, the police intervened, and senior officers arrived at the spot.

Police Action and Lathi Charge Reported

The police reportedly used lathi charge on those protesting. Videos show police personnel wielding batons to control the crowd. Hindu organizations alleged that some members of the Muslim community attacked them, and later the police also brutally beat them. Around 12 Hindus were injured in the incident, and one young man suffered a head injury.

Police Statement on the Incident

The police stated that the procession in Khajuriya village took place according to a pre-decided program and a written agreement between both parties. However, in the afternoon, some locals raised objections regarding where the chadar was to be unfurled. Police tried to explain, but when they did not relent, they were warned and removed from the spot.

City SP denied any incident of lathi charge. Police also clarified that some people tried to spread false rumours against police personnel present at the spot, which was immediately refuted.

Political Rivalry also Surfaced

Police revealed that personal enmity between the current and former village heads influenced the escalation of the clash. After investigating, they will take strict action against the guilty. Additionally, they will conduct an impartial inquiry into any written complaints received.

Situation Currently Under Control

Authorities have deployed sufficient police forces at the site, bringing the situation under control. The administration has directed all parties to maintain restraint and uphold law and order. This incident threatens social harmony and peace, so officials urge everyone to maintain calm.
