The Yogi government has prepared a strong roadmap for the upliftment of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs). According to this plan, the marriage aid for poor girls from the OBC category has been proposed to be increased from ₹20,000 to ₹60,000. In the year 2024–25, scholarships and fee reimbursements were provided to 3,222,499 OBC students. OBCs constitute 52% of Uttar Pradesh’s population.
Over the past eight years, a total of 20,753,457 students have received scholarships and fee reimbursements amounting to ₹13,535.33 crore. This amount is four times higher than the ₹4,197 crore spent by the previous government, reflecting the Yogi government’s commitment to OBC welfare.
The department has set a target of providing benefits worth ₹80,000 crore to over seven crore OBC students by 2047, ensuring social equality through education. During the same period, ₹1,221 crore has been spent to assist in the marriages of 610,483 daughters, while the previous government spent ₹344 crore on 275,311 marriages. Now, the proposed marriage grant has been raised from ₹20,000 to ₹60,000, with a target of benefiting 24 lakh daughters with ₹14,400 crore by 2047.
Training 11 Lakh Youth
Under the computer training scheme, the government aims to train 11 Lakh youth by 2047, with an expenditure of ₹3,850 crore. At the same time, priority is being given to the maintenance and construction of hostels so that more OBC students can avail of free accommodation facilities. Minister of State Narendra Kashyap said that development is incomplete without the participation of rural areas. Through the schemes of the Department of Backward Class Welfare, OBC youth are getting opportunities, and the rural economy is also being strengthened.
