Heavy rains and rising water levels in rivers have created trouble across Uttar Pradesh as the Ganga, Yamuna, and other rivers are in spate. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for 25 districts today. In the last 24 hours, the state received only 2 mm of rainfall, which is 73% less than the expected average of 7.4 mm. However, this seasonâs total rainfall has touched 644.9 mm, slightly above the normal average of 641.4 mm.
Half of Vrindavan Under Water
The release of water from Hathini Kund Barrage has worsened the flood situation in Mathura. Nearly 50% of Vrindavan is waterlogged. Water has entered the Radha Vallabh temple, and the Yamuna has reached just 100 meters from the Banke Bihari temple, compared to 600 meters earlier.
The Vrindavan Parikrama route is completely submerged. Devotees have been stranded at different places. On Sunday, a funeral procession could reach the cremation ground only after much struggle through the floodwater. Around 26 villages and a population of nearly 7,000 people are badly affected.
Shahjahanpur Medical College Closed
The rising water level of the Garra River has caused serious trouble in Shahjahanpur. Water entered the State Medical College campus, forcing authorities to shut it down. Patients were shifted to nearby Community Health Centres (CHCs), and staff moved medical equipment and mattresses to safer places.
Floodwater has also submerged parts of the Delhi-Lucknow highway. Two young men, who were making a video on the flooded highway, were swept away. SDRF teams are searching for them.
Schools Closed, Rescue Operations On
Authorities have ordered schools up to Class 12 closed in Mathura and Shahjahanpur for Monday due to the worsening flood situation. SDRF teams are continuously working on rescue and relief operations in affected areas.
