Tension broke out late Sunday night in Manohar Nagar under the Gangaghat police station area of Unnao district. A procession in support of “I Love Mohammad” was being taken out without permission. Police reached the spot and tried to stop the procession by persuading people.

In the meantime, the crowd turned aggressive and started pushing and shoving with the policemen. The chaos escalated to the point that people began pelting stones at the police. During the incident, Gangaghat SHO Ajay Kumar Singh got caught in the crowd, and his stars (insignia) were even torn off.

Police Action and Arrests

As the violence grew, police resorted to baton charge to disperse the mob. On receiving the information, forces from Sadar, Achalganj, and Gangaghat police stations, along with PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) and riot-control vehicles, rushed to the scene. Heavy police deployment continued till late at night to bring the situation under control.

Sadar SDM Kshitij Dwivedi said that the procession had no permission, yet people came out on the streets in large numbers, including women. When the police tried to stop them, resistance followed, leading to stone-pelting.

ASP Akhilesh Singh stated that Section 163 has been imposed in the district. Six people have been arrested for obstructing police duty and pelting stones. The matter is under investigation, and forces have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
