Big Diwali Gift from Yogi Government: 1.85 Crore Families to Get Free Gas Cylinder, Electricity Bills to Drop in October

In October, Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi government will give a double gift to the people of the state, offering free gas cylinders to Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries along with reduced electricity bills.

In October, Uttar Pradesh electricity consumers will get relief as authorities reduce the July 2025 fuel surcharge fee by 1.63%. This cut will ease customers’ burden by about ₹113.54 crore. Every month, officials fix the fuel surcharge fee in Uttar Pradesh. They are currently collecting the June 2025 fee, set at 2.34%, in September, with September 30 as the last payment date. In October, they will collect the July fee.

Free Gas Cylinders for 1.86 Crore Families on Diwali

The way has been cleared for beneficiaries under the Ujjwala Yojana to receive benefits this Diwali. Like last year, 1.86 crore families will be given free gas cylinders. Beneficiaries will receive two free cylinders—one on Holi and one on Diwali. The cabinet has approved this proposal. In the current financial year, ₹1,385.34 crore will be spent on it. This decision has come as a big relief for poor women and will provide significant ease to households.

On September 26, the Yogi Cabinet also approved the construction of another expressway. Once completed, the Ganga Expressway will link Prayagraj to Meerut and connect with the Lucknow-Agra Expressway as well as the Bundelkhand Expressway. This will integrate the Bundelkhand Expressway into the network, making it strategically very important. The Farrukhabad Link Expressway will be 90.84 km long, with a target to complete it in 548 days at a cost of ₹7,488 crore.

Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Nandi said that this project will benefit six districts: Etawah, Mainpuri, Kannauj, Farrukhabad, Shahjahanpur, and Hardoi. He said that currently, the Bundelkhand Expressway and the Agra-Lucknow Expressway end in the Kudrail area of Etawah district. By connecting the Ganga Expressway to the Farrukhabad Greenfield Link Expressway from there, a road grid will be created. This grid will help accelerate the state’s progress.
