Today (25 September 2025), the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, undertook a spiritual visit to the world-famous holy town of Vrindavan in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh. Her visit held immense religious, cultural, and social significance. She offered prayers and darshan at various mythological sites. On her arrival, the local administration organised a grand welcome with elaborate security arrangements. They ensured the President was received with full protocol.
Darshan at Banke Bihari Temple
President Murmu, along with her family, arrived at Vrindavan Road Railway Station at 10 a.m. Traditional shehnai players and priests chanting Vedic mantras welcomed her. Afterwards, officials escorted her in a special golf cart to the famous Banke Bihari Temple. The chief priests of the temple accompanied her into the sanctum sanctorum. There, she performed rituals for about 30 minutes with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. During the puja, special offerings were made, including incense. A ghee lamp lit with cow’s ghee filled the atmosphere with spirituality.
500-Meter Parikrama at Nidhivanraj
After visiting Banke Bihari Temple, the President proceeded to the sacred Nidhivanraj Temple. This place is considered the spiritual heart of Vrindavan. There, she performed a 500-meter parikrama (ritual circumambulation) with devotion. She spent nearly half an hour within the temple premises. Her visit symbolised deep faith and dedication. It sent a message to the nation that rumours of discrimination within temples are unfounded.
Devotion at Other Temples
Following Nidhivanraj, President Murmu visited the Bansi Chor Radha Rani Temple and the revered Haridas Ji Temple. At the Haridas Ji Temple, she offered devotional adornments (Shringar) as a mark of respect and faith. These temple visits reflected her broad and inclusive spiritual outlook.
Social Commitment and Special Initiatives
A deeply emotional highlight of her visit was when the President planted a Kalpavriksha sapling in memory of her mother. This act symbolised both her respect for her parent and her commitment to environmental sustainability. She also inaugurated a Bhajankuti (devotional music hall), which added new vibrancy to the religious and cultural life of Vrindavan.
Security Arrangements
Throughout the visit, personnel from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), Local Intelligence Unit (LIU), local administration, and police forces ensured the President’s security. Tight arrangements were in place at all temples to make the journey smooth and secure.
President Murmu’s spiritual-religious visit to Uttar Pradesh represented a unique confluence of local culture, traditions, environmental consciousness, and deep faith. On the same day, the Prime Minister also arrived in Uttar Pradesh to inaugurate the International Trade Show in Greater Noida.
