Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam on Friday (September 12) offered prayers at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya during his ongoing state visit to India. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed him on arrival at the temple.
Traditional Welcome by UP Leaders
UP Cabinet Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, who accompanied the Chief Minister, said that people from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar had migrated to Mauritius during British rule and still maintain Indian cultural traditions. He noted that the presence of the Mauritius Prime Minister in Ayodhya symbolised strong cultural and civilisational ties between the two nations.
Visit to Kashi Vishwanath Temple
Before reaching Ayodhya, Ramgoolam visited the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi earlier in the day and performed rituals. This visit follows his series of religious and cultural engagements during his India tour. His next destination is Tirupati Balaji Temple.
Bilateral Talks with PM Modi
On Thursday (11 September), Ramgoolam held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in infrastructure, healthcare, digital technology, renewable energy, maritime security, and cultural exchanges. The discussions highlighted the strategic importance of the India-Mauritius partnership in the Indian Ocean region.
Upcoming Visits During India Tour
The Mauritius Prime Minister is scheduled to travel to Dehradun on September 13 and 14, and later visit Tirupati on September 15. His itinerary also includes wreath-laying ceremonies at Rajghat and Sadaiv Atal, a visit to the New Parliament Building, and meetings with the President of India and senior government ministers. His week-long visit from September 9 to 16 is being closely followed for its cultural and diplomatic significance.
