On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a major announcement for the state’s teachers. Speaking at a program in Lok Bhavan, Lucknow, he said that more than 9 lakh teachers will now get the benefit of cashless medical treatment. This facility will cover teachers from basic, secondary, aided, and self-financed institutions.
The scheme will also include shikshamitras, instructors, and even cooks working in schools. With this decision, teachers and staff linked with schools will not have to worry about the cost of medical treatment. This applies to both common or serious illnesses.
Honour for Teachers and Assured Pay Hike for Instructors
During the event, the Chief Minister also addressed the issue of pay for shikshamitras and instructors. He informed that the government has already formed a committee to review the matter of honorarium.
He assured that once the committee submits its report, the government will take a positive decision to increase their pay. CM Yogi called teachers the backbone of nation-building. He said it is the duty of the government to free teachers from the worry of health expenses. “A teacher cannot be compared with a leader or a bureaucrat because a teacher carries a unique respect in society,” said the Chief Minister.
On this occasion, Yogi Adityanath also honored 81 teachers with the State Teacher Award. Among them, 66 teachers were from basic education and 15 from secondary education. The awards were presented on the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. This was to recognise the dedication and service of teachers.
Uttar Pradesh Emerges as Growth Engine of India
The Chief Minister also highlighted the changing image of Uttar Pradesh. He said the state, once regarded as a ‘BIMARU’ state, has now become the growth engine of India.
He added that Uttar Pradesh, which once struggled to make an identity, now has a strong place of pride. He also questioned earlier governments. Specifically, he stated that eight years ago, those in power failed to do anything for the progress of the state.
The teachers and education organisations present at the event welcomed the state government’s decision. They said that health expenditures had been a major worry for teachers for many years. However, this initiative will finally bring them relief. Teachers believe this move will strengthen their social security, improve their confidence, and enhance their efficiency at work.
