The grand Ramleela organised in Lord Ram’s city, Ayodhya, has set a new world record this year. More than 51 crore devotees worldwide watched this year’s cinematic Ramleela on online platforms, surpassing last year’s achievement of 47 crore viewers, marking a historic milestone. According to the organising committee, this Ramleela was not only showcased in India but was also broadcast live in over 40 countries and in 26 languages, giving the Ramayana saga a new global stature.
The Ramleela was staged at Ramkatha Park on a massive 120-foot stage with 3D technology. Over 42 Bollywood artists brought to life the central characters of the Ramayana. Subhash Malik, founding president of the committee, said, “This Ramleela is not just a celebration, but a powerful medium to convey Indian culture and ideals to the younger generation. Crossing 51 crore viewers this year after 47 crore last year is the result of our hard work.”
Story of Record-Breaking Success
Compared to previous years, this year’s Ramleela broadcast on Doordarshan, YouTube, and other social media platforms proved historic. According to committee general secretary Shubham Malik, 41 crore (410 million) viewers joined within the first three days, gradually increasing to the final figure. Devotees from countries including the US, Canada, Australia, Thailand, Germany, China, and South Africa watched the live streaming in huge numbers.
Began During the Pandemic
This cinematic Ramleela began during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and since then, it has grown in grandeur every year. This time, 60 artists from four different states crafted giant effigies, blending technology with art. Episodes such as Narad Moh, Sita Swayamvar, and the Ram-Ravana battle captivated audiences. The committee’s goal was 500 million viewers, which not only was achieved but also exceeded.
Global Impact and Cultural Significance
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Ayodhya is rapidly emerging as a major religious and cultural hub. This Ramleela also boosted tourism, as thousands of devotees visited Ayodhya. Subhash Malik said, “Through Ramleela, we are able to pass on the teachings of the Ramayana to the digital generation. This new record is not just about numbers but is a strong symbol of cultural consciousness.”
