In a major breakthrough that prevented what could have been a large-scale tragedy. The Uttar Pradesh Police, along with the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), arrested two suspected terrorists. They recovered 200 kilograms of explosives from a Delhi-bound bus in Baghpat.
Police have identified the arrested men as Mohammad Uzair and Mohammad Shahnawaz, both residents of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Officials said they carried out the operation late on the night of August 25. This followed an intelligence input about suspicious movement on a public transport vehicle. Acting swiftly, a joint team intercepted the bus near Baghpat town. They conducted a thorough search.
During the inspection, officials found several packets of explosive material concealed in the luggage compartment. They had packed the explosives in multiple containers and hidden them carefully among regular passenger baggage, making detection difficult. According to preliminary reports, the explosives were of high grade. They had the potential to cause massive destruction in crowded areas.
FIR Registered, State on High Alert
Following the arrests, an FIR was lodged at the Kotwali police station in Baghpat. This was under sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Explosives Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Both suspects, in their late twenties, are being interrogated by ATS officers. The goal is to uncover wider links and motives.
The authorities have seized the bus carrying the explosives. Police are questioning the driver and conductor to determine whether they knew about the consignment or acted unknowingly. Meanwhile, the UP Police have issued a statewide alert and tightened security at transit hubs, bus stations, and along the UP-Delhi route. They are also coordinating with the Delhi Police and central agencies. This is to track any possible terror network connected to the incident.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the police and ATS for their timely action. He said that their vigilance had potentially saved countless lives. Additionally, it sent out a strong message that Uttar Pradesh will not tolerate any act of terrorism.
This major recovery is seen as one of the biggest anti-terror operations in recent months. It has placed security agencies on heightened alert.
The law and order in UP under CM Yogi Adityanath has become vigilant. Moreover, this success is part of that strictness.
