In Meerut, police have arrested two accused in a “love trap” case. A major revelation has surfaced regarding fake videos and photos of Muslim women and girl students being circulated on social media. During interrogation, both men admitted that they were doing this to gain foreign funding and increase their followers online. They were trying to portray that Hindu boys are targeting Muslim girls, but the Police arrested them on the complaint lodged by a victim.
According to police, Firoz and Kasim used to record videos in crowded areas and upload them online with false captions. Four videos of new students were found on Firoz’s mobile. The accused’s phones have been sent for forensic examination. Let’s see what came to light after their questioning.
You might be wondering, what exactly is this ‘Love Trap’? Let’s understand it.
Target: This gang targets Muslim girls who have Hindu friends.
Surveillance: They follow these girls everywhere—in university, canteen, markets, and every place.
Recording: Whenever possible, they secretly take photos or videos of the girls and their Hindu friends. These include regular conversations and videos of them hanging out.
Fake Profile: Then, fake Instagram accounts are created either in the girls’ names or other names.
Viral: These photos and videos are then made viral through these fake profiles with obscene, vulgar, and communal comments.
Purpose: The aim is to defame the girl so much that she stops going out, her reputation is ruined, and hatred is sown between Hindu-Muslim friends. In short, the whole plan is to destroy the lives of girls from their own community.
Firoz and Kasim revealed several secrets
After their arrest, both confessed that they specifically targeted Muslim girls to create misleading content. By adding a “love trap” angle, they tried to tarnish the image of these women and girls. Police discovered that this was a new strategy aimed at targeting Muslim women, which is now being thoroughly investigated. This was to create disharmony in society by dividing Hindus and Muslims. This was also aimed at creating hate among muslims against Hindus.
Action after complaint
A student of Chaudhary Charan Singh University had lodged a case at the Medical police station in May. She stated that on April 28, while returning home after class, two men on a bike took her photo near the SBI bank. The next day, her neighbour informed her that her picture was being circulated in WhatsApp groups. The image was being misused by adding a Hindu-Muslim angle with the narrative of a “love trap,” attempting to malign her reputation, which left her under stress.
Police action
After the FIR was registered, the police had been trying to track down the accused for several days. On Monday, Firoz, a resident of Kailanagar New Abadi Quarsi in Aligarh, was caught in Bihar. Later, based on his interrogation, Kasim, a resident of Buddha Garden in Lohianagar, was also arrested. Civil Lines CO Abhishek Tiwari stated that four more videos were found on Firoz’s phone, while Kasim’s mobile has also been seized by the police.
