The troubles of Bhim Army chief and Member of Parliament from UP’s Nagina Lok Sabha seat, Chandrashekhar Azad, have increased. Dr. Rohini Ghawari, a PhD scholar from Indore who has accused him of sexual exploitation, has threatened suicide on social media. Currently living in Switzerland, Rohini has alleged that the Delhi Police are avoiding action and that the system is protecting those in power.
What is the matter?
The case concerns Dr. Rohini, the daughter of a sanitation worker from Indore, a well-known PhD scholar, and her relationship with Chandrashekhar. Rohini, who works in Switzerland and runs an NGO, said three months ago on social media that she and the MP were in a relationship for three years. She has levelled serious charges of sexual exploitation and betrayal against him and has also complained to the National Commission for Women. Dr. Rohini shared her entire story on social media.
Suicide threat on social media
On Wednesday (September 24), Rohini posted multiple messages from her X (formerly Twitter) account threatening to take her life. In one post she uploaded a photo of Chandrashekhar with his wife and child and wrote, “You are happy that my life is ruined; today itself I will poison myself in your name.” She also shared some private videos and claimed Chandrashekhar had forced her into the relationship. She posted two other clips showing Chandrashekhar crying and drinking alcohol.
Appeal to the Prime Minister for justice
Two days earlier she had tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, writing that she would give up her life on the United Nations’ platform if she did not get justice. She alleged that because of dirty politics the Delhi Police are not registering her FIR and that the entire system is siding with the powerful.
Serious allegations against the police
Rohini said, “I met the Delhi Commissioner several times and gave evidence, but there was no hearing. They always say there is no order from above to act. Now I have no route left except to give my life. In our country, a victim must die to get justice.”
